Schools, townships and first responders benefit from Atlantic Sunrise Community grants

$326,800 in Funding Spread Across 11 Pennsylvania Counties

Fire departments, schools, parks and townships are a few of the 44 Pennsylvania organizations that will receive $326,800 in funding this spring from Williams through its bi-annual community grant program. Grants up to $10,000 per applicant are being awarded by Williams to eligible organizations in communities where the proposed Atlantic Sunrise pipeline project would be constructed and operated.

One of the 44 recipients is the Borough of Quarryville, which will use its $10,000 grant to update a playground at Huffnagle Park to increase its accessibility and make it more inclusive.

“Our goal is to increase the accessibility of the Huffnagle Park playground by providing innovative features such as an adapted swing, poured-in-place rubber surfacing and an adapted see-saw,” said Project Co-Director Maria Peiffer. “This grant from Williams is going to help make it possible for all children in this area to have a safe, inclusive place to play.”

Another recipient is the Friendship Fire Company in Lebanon, which plans to use its $10,000 grant to purchase state-of-the-art rescue equipment.

“We have a lot of older rescue equipment that desperately needs updating,” said Captain Robert Donley, Friendship Fire Company. “This support is going to allow us to purchase newer, modern rescue equipment that will help us be more effective in our local emergency response activities. Our entire fire company is very grateful for this grant.”

Today’s announcement represents the fifth grant award cycle since the program was initiated in 2015. Since then, Williams has announced total awards of more than $1.79 million across the entire Atlantic Sunrise project area.

Two cycles of Atlantic Sunrise grant awards are announced each year (spring and fall). This cycle’s grant dollars were dispersed in the following broad categories: emergency response ($151,200), education ($55,600) and recreation or community enhancement projects ($120,000).
